PEGI age ratings explained
An overview of the PEGI labels and content descriptors that indicate which age games are suitable for.
· Updated

The Pan European Game Information (PEGI) system helps parents and consumers make informed decisions about buying games. The ratings consist of age categories and content descriptors that describe specific content.
Age Categories
PEGI uses five different age categories that indicate the minimum age for which a game is suitable. These labels can be found on game packaging.
Content Descriptors
In addition to the age categories, PEGI uses content descriptors. These icons provide specific information about the type of content that appears in a game. The following descriptors are used:
- Violence
- Fear
- Bad language
- Sex
- Gambling
- Drugs
- Discrimination
- In-game purchases
- Horror
- Pressure to play
- Safe Online Gameplay
- Time-limited offers
- Cryptocurrency
- Unrestricted communication
- Paid random items
These descriptors help consumers better understand which specific elements are present in a game, in addition to the general age indication.
